After a tooth extraction, a blood clot forms in the wound – the most important building block for healing. Anything that disturbs this clot can delay healing. The most important rules follow from this.

In short

After an extraction, bite on the gauze pad for about 30 minutes, only eat once the anaesthetic has worn off, and in the first few days avoid smoking, alcohol, vigorous rinsing, sucking and sport. Cool from the outside. If the pain increases after two to three days (suspected “dry socket”), please get in touch.

| What | Recommendation |
| -------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Eating | once the anaesthetic has worn off; soft, lukewarm, on the other side |
| Drinking | water, lukewarm tea; no straw |
| Smoking | avoid for at least 2–3 days, preferably longer |
| Brushing teeth | yes, but leave out the wound |
| Sport/sauna | take a break for a few days |
| Cooling | from the outside with a cold, damp cloth, with breaks |

Cooling, rest, soft food – this is how the wound heals best.

## Frequently asked questions

When can an implant go into the gap?

Depending on the situation, immediately, after a few weeks or after a few months. If an implant is planned, socket preservation can preserve the bone.

Is coffee allowed?

Better not hot on the first day – lukewarm and in moderation is usually no problem.
