“Every child costs a tooth” – this old German saying is no longer true today. But during pregnancy your hormone balance changes, and the gums react more sensitively. With good preventive care, you and your baby will get through this time safely.

In short

During pregnancy the gums are prone to inflammation (pregnancy gingivitis). A check-up and professional teeth cleaning, ideally in the second trimester, make sense. Necessary treatments are possible with suitable anaesthetics; X-rays are only taken if absolutely necessary. Larger procedures that can be planned are usually postponed until after the birth.

- Choose tooth-friendly options for frequent snacks.
- Do not ignore bleeding gums.
