Dentist Nuremberg St. Peter
Dentist for Anxious Patients
Plenty of time, honest explanations and acupuncture against anxiety and gagging: step by step, going to the dentist becomes manageable again.
Many people go to the dentist with an uneasy feeling, some put off their appointment for years. The reasons are understandable: bad experiences in childhood, fear of pain, embarrassment about the state of their teeth or a strong gag reflex. We take this seriously – without reproach and without time pressure.
For anxious patients we plan more time, explain every step in advance, agree on a stop signal and start with small, manageable treatments. For anxiety and a strong gag reflex we also offer acupuncture immediately before treatment – something we have had very good experiences with.
How we deal with dental anxiety
Our approach- Tell uswhen you book, or in the comment field of the online booking. Then we deliberately plan a calm first appointment.
- Talk first, treat laterAt the first visit we only look at your teeth if you want us to. You decide what happens.
- Stop signalRaise your hand and we stop immediately. That gives you back control.
- Reliable anaesthesiaModern local anaesthesia works reliably; we wait until it has taken full effect.
- Small stepsBetter several short appointments than one long session. Every good appointment reduces anxiety.
Acupuncture against anxiety and gagging
For patients with great anxiety or a strong gag reflex we offer acupuncture applied immediately before treatment. Fine needles are placed at selected points. Many patients find that their gag reflex and tension ease considerably – for some they disappear completely. The acupuncture is short, barely noticeable and combines well with all treatments.

Gag reflex? Digital scan instead of impression tray
A common trigger for gagging is the conventional impression tray with impression material. With a digital impression by intraoral scanner, this is no longer necessary for many restorations.
Prevention instead of emergencies
People who have not been to the dentist for a long time are often afraid of extensive treatment. The sooner you come, the smaller the procedures usually are. Regular check-ups and prevention are the best way to keep pain from making anxiety worse.
Please do not feel ashamed of the state of your teeth. Every day we see people who have not been to the dentist for a long time. All that matters is that you come now.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be treated at the first appointment?
No. If you wish, the first appointment is just a chance to get to know each other and talk. Treatment only starts when you are ready – except for acute pain, which we of course relieve.
How does acupuncture work against the gag reflex?
Fine needles are placed at specific points shortly before treatment. Many patients report that their gag reflex and tension ease considerably. The effect varies from person to person.
Is acupuncture covered by health insurance?
No, acupuncture at the dental practice is a private service. We tell you the costs in advance.
Do you offer treatment under general anaesthesia?
Talk to us. If treatment under sedation or general anaesthesia makes sense, we discuss the options and work with specialised partners for it.
