Dental Operating Microscope

High magnification and bright light: root canal treatment, microsurgery and gum corrections become more precise and gentler.

Dental Operating Microscope

A tooth is small, its canals and cracks often even smaller. The dental operating microscope magnifies the treatment area with continuously adjustable zoom and illuminates it with coaxial light – exactly from the direction of view. This lets us recognise and treat structures that are barely visible to the naked eye or with magnifying loupes. At our practice in Nuremberg-St. Peter we use the microscope above all for root canal treatment, microsurgical procedures and gum corrections.

In short

The dental operating microscope magnifies the treatment area many times over and illuminates it without shadows. This makes additional root canals, fine cracks and filling margins visible, and procedures on the gums can be done with smaller incisions.

Where does the microscope help?

  • Root canal treatment and retreatment: finding hidden or calcified canal openings, removing old root fillings, assessing cracks.
  • Microsurgery: for example an apicoectomy, with a smaller access and a precise view of the root tip.
  • Gum lifting and recession coverage: fine suturing techniques that spare the tissue.
  • Diagnostics: hairline cracks, decay under filling margins and leaking crown margins are easier to detect.
  • Precise fillings and preparations: healthy tooth structure is preserved as far as possible.

What does this mean for you as a patient?

Treatment under the microscope feels no different for you: you lie comfortably and the tooth is numbed. Because we work more precisely, procedures on the gums can often be smaller, which can make healing easier. Above all, in root canal treatment the chances of finding and thoroughly cleaning all canals increase – an important factor in keeping the tooth.

Frequently asked questions

Is every treatment done under the microscope?

No. We use the microscope where magnification brings a real advantage – above all for root canals, retreatments and microsurgical procedures.

Does treatment take longer as a result?

Sometimes a little, because we work more thoroughly. In return, the risk of a canal being missed and having to be treated again later decreases.

Does health insurance pay for the microscope?

For patients with German statutory insurance, use of the microscope is a private service. Private health insurers reimburse it depending on the policy. We inform you in advance.
