Oral Surgery & Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth, extractions, apicoectomies: we perform surgical procedures gently and with careful aftercare.

Oral Surgery & Wisdom Teeth

Sometimes there is no way around a surgical procedure – for example when a wisdom tooth causes space or inflammation problems, a tooth can no longer be saved, or inflammation persists at a root tip. At our practice we carry out many of these procedures ourselves, gently on the tissue and – where useful – under the operating microscope.

In short

The most common oral surgery procedures include removing teeth and wisdom teeth, apicoectomy, removing small cysts and procedures to prepare for implants. They are usually done under local anaesthesia; very extensive procedures are planned with specialised oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Our surgical services

  • Tooth extraction – as bone-preserving as possible, with socket preservation for a later implant if desired.
  • Wisdom teeth – when they lie sideways, do not erupt, cause inflammation or endanger neighbouring teeth.
  • Apicoectomy – removal of an inflamed root tip when root canal treatment alone is not enough.
  • Cyst removal and tissue samples (biopsy).
  • Implant surgery and bone grafting – see implantology.

Frequently asked questions

Do wisdom teeth always have to come out?

No. Healthy, correctly positioned wisdom teeth that are easy to clean can stay. We recommend removal if they cause symptoms or problems are foreseeable.

How long will I be on sick leave after wisdom tooth surgery?

That depends on the extent and your job; often it is a few days.

Can I keep taking blood thinners before the procedure?

Never stop medication on your own. Tell us in advance what you take – if necessary we coordinate the procedure with your GP.
