Cosmetic Dentistry
Discoloured, chipped or worn teeth? Ceramics, composite, whitening and gum corrections for a naturally beautiful smile.
Beautiful teeth are more than vanity: a smile you like to show affects self-confidence and quality of life. Discoloured, chipped or worn teeth, on the other hand, can be a burden. In cosmetic dentistry we combine function and appearance – with the aim that the result looks natural and lasts a long time.
Cosmetic dentistry includes all treatments that harmoniously improve the shape, colour and position of the teeth – such as whitening, tooth-coloured fillings, veneers, all-ceramic crowns and gum corrections. It always starts with a consultation about which solution suits your teeth and wishes.
Options at a glance
| Wish | Possible solution |
|---|---|
| Whiter teeth | Teeth whitening (in the practice or with a tray at home) |
| Single dark, root-treated tooth | internal whitening or a ceramic restoration |
| Small chips, gaps, edges | composite build-up (bonding), often without drilling |
| Discoloured or irregular front teeth | ceramic veneers |
| Old crowns with a dark margin | all-ceramic crowns, made with CAD/CAM |
| Exposed tooth necks, “gummy smile” | Gum lifting and recession coverage |
| Gap from a missing tooth | Implant with ceramic crown |

Veneers: thin ceramic shells
Veneers are bonded to the front of the teeth. They can correct colour, shape and minor misalignments. Depending on the starting situation, the enamel only needs to be reduced minimally or not at all. Because veneers cannot be removed without the tooth needing a new restoration, we plan them with particular care – with a preview if you wish.
Tooth-coloured fillings instead of amalgam
Since 2025 amalgam has largely been banned in the EU. For back teeth we use high-quality composites or ceramic inlays that are barely distinguishable from the tooth in colour. More on our page Dental fillings.
Cosmetic treatments are usually private services. We advise you honestly – including when we advise against a treatment, for example if healthy tooth structure would be sacrificed unnecessarily.

Frequently asked questions
How long do veneers last?
With good care and without heavy grinding, ceramic veneers often last many years. Anyone who grinds should wear a protective splint at night.
Do fillings and crowns get lighter with whitening?
No. Whitening only works on natural tooth structure. Visible fillings or crowns may need to be colour-matched afterwards.
Does health insurance pay for cosmetic treatments?
Purely cosmetic treatments are private services. For medically necessary restorations there is the insurer’s fixed subsidy, which we deduct from the costs.
