Prevention & Professional Teeth Cleaning
Thorough cleaning even where your toothbrush cannot reach: our prevention team protects your teeth and gums – with time and a gentle touch.
Even with careful brushing, plaque remains between the teeth, along the gum line and on crowns or implants. Over time it hardens into tartar, where bacteria feel particularly at home. Professional teeth cleaning removes these deposits thoroughly – making it one of the most effective measures against decay and periodontitis.
In professional teeth cleaning, specially trained staff remove hard and soft deposits and stains, clean between the teeth, polish the teeth and apply fluoride. It includes personal advice on home care. Depending on your risk, one to four appointments a year are recommended.

How often does professional cleaning make sense?
That depends on your individual risk. For many adults one to two appointments a year make sense. People with implants, treated periodontitis, diabetes, fixed braces or many crowns often benefit from shorter intervals.
What does professional cleaning cost?
Professional teeth cleaning is not a standard benefit of German statutory health insurance. However, many insurers contribute a subsidy or cover part of the costs – ask your insurer. Simple tartar removal once a calendar year is covered. Private health insurance and supplementary dental insurance usually reimburse professional cleaning. We tell you the price in advance; it depends on the effort involved.
Children and teenagers aged 6 to 17 are entitled to individual prevention covered by statutory insurance – more under children’s dentistry.

Frequently asked questions
Is professional teeth cleaning painful?
Usually not. With sensitive tooth necks or inflamed gums it can be uncomfortable in places – let us know and we will work more gently or apply local anaesthesia.
Will my teeth be whiter after the cleaning?
Your natural tooth colour does not change, but stains from coffee, tea or smoking are removed. The teeth often look much brighter as a result.
How long does a cleaning take?
Allow about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the findings.
